My peahen Jael has been sitting on eggs and are due today to hatch. When she took a break two days ago I looked in her nest: looks like she has 7 eggs not 6 like I thought but that they are really very muddy dirty. (We have been having flooding and their pen got muddy not flooded) Will they still hatch? This is her second clutch this year because the first was infertile, so she set another.

So Jael got up and was running, darting, flapping her wings. I gave her some treats and listened to her eggs. I heard pecking and a muffled little cheep. After Jael ate she settled back down on her eggs. I hope this is a good sign? I always incubate my eggs and never really paid attention to broody birds, this is definitely an interesting experience! :ya

Out of 7 eggs 6 hatched. The other one is peeping. I put it in the incubator. I took 3 and left her with 3. She has never raised peachicks before and I'd like to see how she'll do first. I have 3 India Blue and 1 probable white peachick I just got Sent from the hatchery Friday. I split my 4 Barred Rock chicks between them.
