just bought 3 hens today for local stockyard sale / auction. When we got them home we notice that 2 of them had dirty nasty bottoms. They had been in very small baskets, cramed together, for I don't know how long. Our Americana(sp) walks around a little bit then she sits down.. Not too interested in eating at first, when she went to roost she is sitting to the right of the door, not on the roost. She is kind of staying to herself. The other bird is very active, but her bottom has black poop, clumped or matted. I have not been working with chickens very long, and is it advisable to bath the chickens to clean off their bottom and feathers? I would appreciate any help or advice.
