Hi all,

New issue of the week, well longer than that. My Lab is quickly sneaking the chicken poop and eating it!!! Yuck! Has this ever happened to any one else? I try my best to catch him, but like I said he's a sneaky 3 year old! Must have got some last night cause he had the worst gas! I don't let him anywhere near the coop now cause the poop comes off my boots in tha barn and the dog comes in with me, not anymore for this reason!

We've always had labs and by experience they'll eat every thing! Procably best to avoid too much though!

eating chicken poop is a common dog issue. cat poop, cow poop, etc etc

Yes, my dog's eat just about any poop there is available, especially my horse's. It's called "Coprophagia". There is a product that you can add to their food to discourage this behavior (see picture)

. There's also a product called "NaturVet Coprophagia Deterrent Soft Chews" that you can buy on Amazon or at your pet store locally.

I heard on a dog training show a while back that feeding your dog pineapple will stop the dog from eating their own feces. I guess it doesn't taste well the second time around.

I've always wanted to see if there would be a noticeable change in my dogs eating the chickens poop if I feed the chickens pineapple. It may be worth a shot.

Both my dogs eat chicken poop, and then come to me to give me kisses. It's certainly a gross habit. I feel for you, :hugs

My dogs can't get to much chicken poop now, cause the birds are all caged. But if they get in the coop, they go for the poop. Also horse poop and cat poop. It's like a buffet here.

That's why I never, ever let a dog lick me.

actually, dogs eating the poop of other species isn't Coprophagia Eating the poop of prey animals is perfectly normal canine behavior. So is rolling in it (covers the predator smell) and rolling in the 3 week dead carcass of a groundhog they found under the shed.

Someone on here posted about her dog eating chicken poop. She said when started feeding Fermented feed, her dog stopped eating poop. She wondered if the absence of excess protein was the reason.

My dogs can't get to my chicken's poop because I keep mine in the coop because of chicken murdering neighborhood dogs. And I still don't like them licking me!!

Poop is like candy to dogs. Used to make me nuts. I gave up on trying to stop my girl from eating a long time ago. We're both much happier now.

Thank you everyone for your feedback and the suggestions. Glad it's just not my crazy dog that does it. Thanks again!
