Dirty shipped eggs..

farrier! :

I have received dirty eggs. They either did not start or died very early on. None of the dirty ones hatched.....

I had dirty poo eggs that I bought and none of them hacthed. I cleaned up and moved more eggs because of exploding eggs. Trying to wash them was impossible. I don't know if you have chicken or quaill eggs, but neither are worth keeping. Send whoever you got them from saying you want a refund. Take pictures of them.

I was shipped 10 poo-smeared chicken eggs. One hatched. Most started then quit. A couple got really stinky. And the hatched chick seemed weak, and died in a few days.

tis a bit late to take pictures..

I got some pretty dirty eggs. only had 7 left to put under my hen after the PO got done with them, and out of the 7, 4 hatched out. 2 of the non-hatchers never started, and the 3rd quit early on. The 4 that did hatch are sweet as sugar little peeps, and healthy as can be! Maybe it has to do with the fact that they were under a broody hen rather than an incubator??

Maybe I just got really lucky... But just thought I'd share my 2 cents

If an egg is dirty and I want it set it anyway, I wash it. In a sink full of soapy water. And rinse it, let it air dry. I had a batch I set under a hen recently, 11 eggs, I washed all but 3 of them. She hatched 8 out of 11. Of the 3 that did not hatch, 2 were marked "UW" for "unwashed". So 1 unwashed egg hatched, 7 washed eggs hatched.

Just use water warmer than the eggs. That way, as the egg warms, and expands, it will push bacteria out, rather than suck it in.

But people selling and shipping eggs, should not be sending eggs in that condition. A little dirt here and there, ok, but not caked with filth.
