i recently started caring for Scooter, a two year old Indian Runner (I think) duck that was mauled by children as a hatchling and cannot walk, stand or fly. I also have a two month old Muscovy duckling with a fused upside down foot that has developed scoliosis as a result. It cannot walk or stand but gets around by hopping on its good leg. I am also caring for an adult female Muscovy that was attacked by snapping turtles. I'm learning very quickly how to care for these babies. I had never even gotten close to a duck until April when I rescued another female from a turtle attack. I'm doing this with little knowledge and no money. I need all the help I can get.

The older duck, Scooter, loves to swim but Hopper, the baby, can't swim. It sinks and nearly drowns so I have to support it in the water. Hopper's protector/companion, Shadow, loves the water but hovers over Hopper.

I also have and have had special needs ducks on little to no money, and no experience when i started (thank god for the internet).

For any ducks who have suffered amputations of legs or feet have you looked into 3d printing? There ae ducks getting new limbs now via this and individuals and companies out there who are willing to help provide printed prosthetics to animal rescuers at little or no cost.

I currently have a disabled duckling who cant walk, stand l swim without assistance and had a one legged drake who meant the world to me who unfortunately died unexpectedly while staying at a waterfowl sanctuary where he was going to get a 3d printed leg then return home to me.

I think you get closer to the special needs ducks, and while they take lots of time, the blessings they bring into your life far outweigh the inconveniences of caring for them.
