Hello everyone,
I have a roo who sustained a spinal injury by accidentally getting kicked by one of my horses.
He survived thanks to his incredible will to live. But, one week post trauma, he still has a limp neck and cannot stand on his own (I spend most of his day turning his position to keep him stable and comfy).
He is still being syringe fed by me, and I don't suspect this changing much due to the severity of his injury, and the damage done.
I stretch his legs daily, and he can grasp my finger sporadically upon command. He is making some slight improvement. He is getting little bugs around his head from what I believe to be an attraction to some caked-on "Exact." So, moving-on, I have some questions for those of you that might have some contact information, or are dealing with a similar situation:
1. Can I bathe him? So far, I have been using cornstarch to "dust" him. I do wipe as much residual as I possilbly can from his syringe feeds, but because he is so fragile (loosing some feathers and has exposed skin on his neck), I need to exercise extreme caution with clean-up procedures.
2. Does anyone use (or know of where I can find) a "contraption" such as a small wheelchair that could help him get around and/or lift his head?
3. Does anyone use (or know of where I can find) small enough diapers to use on him? I suppose preemie, human baby diapers might suffice- but they might be too big for him.
I thank you for any advice or information you can provide. I would also be very interested to connect with other people that are accomodating a disabled chicken.
Warmly,
Luckyroo
