One of my RIR has disappeared for the second night in a row. I looked for a half hour and could not find her tonight. The problem is that the dogs must now be walked instead of let run in the yard in the morning because they will eat her. Ugggg!!!!!!

Do you mean that she's found an alternative place to sleep at night?

Look UP. I'd bet she's in a tree, on a roof, in a rafter, or somewhere up high.

Yes, she has found a new roost for the night. I checked everything from eye level down to no avail. I'm gonna watch tonight and see if I can figure out where she is going - maybe she has eggs hidden somewhere.

She was about 10 feet up in a tree last night and did not want to come down. I was worried about predators and my dogs so I got her down an put her in the coop.
Is this going to be a nightly activity from now on?

Thats right. Youll have to keep her cooped for some time, to replant the notion of where home is. And even then, it may not work.
How is she getting out?

I agree look UP!

We have three hens that like to Roost in the Oak trees. We have about twenty on our property! So look UP. She is most likely about. We have one for several nights we couldn't figure out where she went and turns out she hides under the house until we are in for the night and then comes out to roost! No kidding. When we busted her she was so mad! LOL

So chances are someone is being a naughty teenager.

They all sleep in the coop at night (except her recently) and free range in my backyard during the day. I will watch the next few dusk's and put her in the coop if I have to.
Thanks
