Disappointing Kitchen Accessories

I bought new appliances when I bought this house (except the fridge came with the house and it works fine,) anyway, I bought a great gas stove (adapted for propane) with the coolest range top! The outer edge all around the top is raised; the burner covers are grates that rest just inside that raised edge and lift off in sections. I just wipe down the top around the burners very easily. No depressions at the burners, no crevices in which crap gets caught. Love it.

There is a lot to be said for the simple ways of the past....ca-chunk. I was taught how to peel potatoes with a sharp knife not a peeler have one now as arthur makes it hard to use the knife. Thanks for all the tips about the stove will weigh them all when the time comes to look.

Side by side or freezer on top or freezer on bottom....I love the freezer on bottom, less wasted food.

I have no real preference, but heat rises and cold settles.

Best slicer ever had to be the ones you could buy at the state fair back in the '50's. They were big enough to slice just about everything and sturdy. You bought them in a whole bag of stuff, a glass knife, a juicer and I don't remember what all else for $10. Watching the guy demonstrate them was fun too.

I like the freezer on the top so that I don't have to go digging around on the floor for my frozen stuff.

Galanie makes a good point. The freezer on my 'fridge is on top and I have a chest type in the basement. I keep finding forgotten stuff in the chest freezer.

Love my new fridge with ice and water in the door, and double drawers for the freezer on the bottom. Had a side by side - lost alot of stuff in that one. Too narrow for the depth of it, couldn't dig to the back of it without totally emptying everything from the shelf. And Tombstone pizzas didn't fit well in the freezer portion. I couldn't live without the chest freezer in the basement, that is where I store freezer stuff. The freezer in the fridge/freezer is just for everyday sort of stuff - ice cubes, diced onions, celery and green peppers, meat scraps for making into dogfood later. The meat for dinners for the week go in there on Sunday. Over ripe banans and fruit prepped and frozen for breakfast smoothies.

My mom and dad bought a new fridge years ago and moved the old green one from teh kitchen into the basement. My mom used it for the extra bulk fruit, candles, well water from the cabin and those flavored chips for candy making. They went through 3 fridges upstairs before the old one in the basement gave up the ghost at nearly 23 years old.

WyoDreamer just reminded me of a 'fridge that my folks had. It started working to well, it froze everything. They moved it into the basement and it became (drum roll) you guessed it, the freezer! They had it for years after that.

Have an upright freezer in the garage and another freezer on the bottom fridge. They are sooo much easier to keep clean but it is as always a personal preference. My parents have always had the side by side compartments are just too small.

Percolator or drip coffee or instant...when we bought this house the previous owner left behind 11 percolators of all sizes and they all worked. they went to friends family and the rescue mission.

We have a french door type refrigerator on top, freezer on the bottom and I wouldn't trade it for the world...much better use of space, but it is a huge refrigerator...looks out of place in our kitchen...I wanted a huge refrigerator...got tired of my husband's bachelor fridge, the freezer didn't get cold enough to keep ice cream, and the fridge part stayed frozen up...Hated it! So when it was time to get a new one we got the big one...And it has saved us more than a couple of times when I buy way too much stuff at the grocery store.
