Hello fellow byc’ers. I am having a problem with disease, but I’m not quite sure of the exact problem. Ok, so I have some 8 wk old chicks that I’ve had since they were a few days old. The other day I noticed one was acting lethargic and puffed up and one of her wings were droopy , so I gave her some electrolyte water and some mushy food. She ate it and was still a little weak, but acted normal the next day. Another day goes by and I go out to check on them, and she had died. The next day we found a possum in the big chickens’ coop. We shot it, but one of my old chickens started acting funny after that. Symptoms: droopy wing, puffed feathers, and purple looking comb. She died yesterday. Heart attack or this disease? Last night I noticed another one of the 8 wk old chicks (I have 3 now) was displaying the same symptoms as the other chick. I gave her special food and she perked right up. I went out this morning and she couldn’t even hold her head up. I tried to get her to stand up, but her head just drooped to the side and she won’t stand at all anymore, so I think she is about to die. Does anybody know of a disease that moves this quickly or of these symptoms? Thanks in advance, Allie.

I am concerned for avian influenza - purple comb, listless, ruffled feathers, rapid death, and spreading to other birds
