Found this while cleaning the coop today. 🤢 New chicken owner, no clue what this is. I have 5 girls who are 20 weeks old, they all seem active and peppy today, and are eating and drinking. No one is laying yet. The weird thing is maybe just a bit smaller than a pinky finger and has a rubbery consistency.

It could possibly be intestinal casing from a certainnstrain of coccidiosis, but it also could be lash egg material from salpingitis. Salpingitis would be rare at their age, but possible. The yellow makes me think lash egg, but here is a picture of the type of Cecal coccidiosis casing:

Here is another picture lower right:

@Eggcessive It looks more like a lash egg to me, even though like you said it would be unusual with them not laying yet. Coccidiosis would be more easily treatable it seems??? So I’d rather it was that tbh. I’ll bag up the grossness and see if I can get a vet appt tomorrow.

@Eggcessive One of the girls laid her first egg yesterday, could that be related? Haven’t cracked it yet, was planning on doing that tonight, but I appears to be a normal egg from the outside.

If it is a lash egg in the earlier picture, and I think it probably is, I would think she is probably not laying. I doubt if it is related to this new egg, but I really don’t know.

Just want to say thanks for your advice on this thread, I really appreciate it! I cracked the egg tonight for dinner, and it was totally normal (though adorably tiny), so I agree that it is unlikely to be from the same pullet who had the possible lash egg. I've got a vet appt Thursday morning, so I'll update than. The girls are still acting totally normal, so fingers crossed that I'm catching the issue early enough.
