Be sure to cover that middle area with 1/2 inch hardware cloth too. The current holes are not rat proof.

Uh. Well. I have 2. I am allowed to have 3. #2 beats up on the first one, so they haven't completely gotten beyond the quarantine setup.
I have 2 chicken houses at this point. Still hoping they'll be housed together this winter. Actually I'm probably going to eat the bully

Foot photos. All one foot. It started out a black circle on the underside of the foot, then a lump formed there. Then after a couple of weeks(?) It swelled up top on both sides of the middle toe. Then the swelling receded and it matured to a pointy lump between 2 toes, seems like it wants to pop out. It hurts her if i mess with the tip of the lump. The space between the other 2 toes is actually up swelling again, as seen in the photos. It had disappeared almost completely.
The day you asked for photos, her foot was wrapped in tape.

Sooooo.....no bedding in the hen house except a small spot of hay?

Landing on a floor not padded with bedding can certainly cause bumbles as can the chicken wire, kiwi stumps and other things they step on.

I seriously do not think it can 'cause' it but can certainly exacerbate an already infected wound.

It's sweet pdz on the floor. I wouldn't call it soft. But it's also a short distance. She's jumping down maybe 15 inches.
Both hens are over in the other setup now. It's much nicer. Theres more light inside. I made a lot of construction progress this week.
