Hi Friends: From Lauren Hemedinger of Dayton, Tennessee
I mentioned in a recent blog that After hatching a brood in a Foam Style Incubator you need to wash the interior and exterior (including all ridges, grills, heater filament, egg turner and screen).
I wish to expand on that issue because I do not want you to SOAK any of these parts, but gently Spray them with Hydrogen Peroxide from the bottle or mixed with water at a 1: to 1: Ration. Pat dry with a good wicking paper towel and leave to air dry before putting the incubator away.
When you are ready to do another batch; repeat the process a few hours before setting the new eggs in the turner. This will assure that the surfaces have been disinfected and the chance of egg survival is extremely high.
1 Pint at Wal-Mart is about $1.00, very reasonable and 2% is all you need to get the job done.
The same solution is excellent on counter tops, cutting boards, and any surface where you cut up poultry or meats. (Good for cleaning your ears too)
Do Not use Hair Bleaching Peroxide, that is a concentrate and too aggressive.
