One of my new silkies has a bad hip. I have him/her separated from the other 26 chicks. I was wondering if this is a common thing for the breed. He/she also is trying to balance so he has a bad wing. Can you think of anything else to do to help? The chick is in a cardboard box and just huddles in a corner nearest to the others. All help is appreciated!
1) What type of bird , age and weight. (Silkie, Newly hatched, ? weight)
2) What is the behavior, exactly. (He/She tips over backward)
3) How long has the bird been exhibiting symptoms? (As long as I've owned him or her)
4) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma? (Not that I know of)
5) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation. (We guess he/she was either born that way or he/she was the littlest and got stuck at the bottom of the pile)
6) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all. (raw egg and water, out of an eyedropper)
7) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc. (Don't know)
8) What has been the treatment you have administered so far? (Hand feeding)
9 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird until you can get to a vet? (Treat him/her ourselves)
10) Describe the housing/bedding in use: For the sick/injured chick, a small cardboard box.
