3.5 wk old barred rock chick was found under heating plate with a leg that turns out at the knee from what I can tell, cannot stand steady, and it's been a few days since we found it. I have made a sling and have a splint if needed, but I'm just not sure what to do. I tried to check for a slipped tendon but it's too swollen. My thought is to splint AND put it in the sling, because I can't get the spine high enough to get to the problem spot. I can pull it back straight but it won't bend up into its body. Toes are moving fine.

I need help. This is my first time with something like this and I don't know where to start except get it off its leg. And help to reduce swelling?? So stressful!!

It's eating and pooping fine. The first pic shows more turning out from the upper area. 2nd is the backwards position.

Looks like a slipped tendon, or perosis. I would try some vitamins, and make sure the feed is fresh and formulated for growing chicks.
