Disney's Beverly Hills Chihuahua

Although I have two Chihuahua's, I don't trust them around strangers and or children.

My oldest Toby is well adjusted to strangers when not in our house or in the front yard. If I take him someplace else, he is very warm and loving. At our house, he is protecting my DH and me.

We took him on a 3000 mile motorcycle trip and he was very pleasant to anyone he meet. He wouldn't let them pick him up, but didn't mind being handed off. People everywhere we went took pictures of him in this Do-ogles and matching harness.

One time when we took him to the vet for shots, the vet asked if he was full blooded. He normally has his arm taken off to the elbow by Chihuahuas... but not my good boy Toby. Took his shot and cookie.

Now my younger Chihuahua Chico... No way Jose'! Strangers... forget it... Children... forget it.

Knowing how both act (angel and protector), I put both in the kennel when new people come over especially with children. It's better for everyone.

I look at it this way... If Paris Hilton and Taco Bell haven't flooded the kid market with puppy mill Chihuahua's, Disney will...

Chihuahua's temperment, like any dog, is all in how you raise them and how you allow them to act. Some people think "purse monsters" are cute and allow the behavior. Not me, I would beat the owner instead of the dog.

It's all about and in the training...

I hate it when movies come out about a certain breed of dogs. I have Siberian Huskies and breed them. When Snowdogs came out so many people were interested in these dogs. Siberian Huskies are not for everyone! There are a lot of requirements that needs to exists in order to own these types of dogs. I know that I have turned down at least 50% of the people who have contacted me for puppies. I am not in it for the money, but for the breed standard of the dog. So, many people are out for a quick buck! It is the dog that suffers when it is a trend! I get holiday pics of a lot of the pups that I have sold. I love the fall, halloween, and Christmas pics the most. I am super picky about who gets them!

I have a Pit Bull and he is the smartest dog I have ever had. I have had him since he was 6 weeks old. Very mild tempered, I have socialized him around all kinds of people. I take him to the ball park and all the kids pet him and scratch's his belly. He just loves it. It all depends on how you raise them.Small, big or large.

The Aztecs (properly Mexica) DID raise them for food. Chichi was the Nahuatl word for a dog. Hmm...wonder how the Chi Chi's restaurant strain came up with their name?

They also ate Mexican Hairless breeds

I sooo agree! It's how you raise a dog vs how they act.

So many people are not committed to their animals otherwise we wouldn't have the SPCA or Shelters full of unwanted animals.

Friends of mine have a pitbull... when I first meet Jr, I didn't know he was a Pit... His temperment was this big loveable dog named Jr that like riding in a wooden wheel wagon on trailrides.

Regarding my Chihuahuas... When I was young (9 or 10), the neighboor down street had a little ankle bitter that use to watch my sister and I when my mum visited and had coffee.

If either of us got off the chair, that dog would chase us to the bathroom nipping at our heals. I really really really disliked that dog and swore I would never have one.

Then I meet Punky Burster... He was the coolest Chihuahua ever. I was in my early 20's and learned it wasn't the dogs fault but the owners fault as to how the dog was socialized and behaved... Now I have two...

I still don't trust them around small children because we don't have any and my dogs are more scared of the children than anything else.

*lol!! I thought so! Chihuahua fajitas, anyone?? JK

IF YOU"RE SQUEAMISH, DON'T READ

When I used to manage a fast food restaurant, I had to take some classes through the state health dept. and the instructor (while trying to dispel the urban rumor that Chinese restaurants catch and butcher stray dogs) told us about his dog-eating experience in China (they raise labradors and Chows) and he told us that dog tastes a lot like pork. I don't think that made anyone feel better.
