Disorientated chicken possibly blind

Poor girl, chickens can learn to navigate well, when they are blind. They do best if items are kept in the same spot (like feeders, waterer etc.) . She may be missing fruit on the ground because it is lower than she expects it to be. Maybe you could hand feed her some to get her interested or pile it up in a dish, so she finds something when she pecks at it.

I do hope someone at "emergencies," et al, will be able to give a diagnosis and treatment options.

I would imagine chickens can have congestive heart failure, like dogs. I know medication can cause the heart to pump more efficiently but the prognosis isn't great.

Just an update for you all who kindly replied to my post. My wee fighter is doing a lot better. She is moving about more and the colour in her eyes is brighter. It's very strange, I do think she has had a stroke but has recovered a bit. I know it's possible in humans so assuming the same for chickens. She is eating better and her movements, although still a bit strange, are not as erratic as before.

Hopefully she will be fine!:D

That is fantastic news!!! We love a story with a happy ending. I hope she continues to recover.

I have a female quail that I believe had stroke last year. Had all the symptoms of stroke in humans. So I do believe they can have strokes and recover. My little quail hen did recover, but she has had 2 more episodes since then. So watch your girl for signs. You might want to keep her separate during these times. Add heat if she is cold and offer up Apple Cider Vinegar in her water. Helps with inflammation in the brain. 3/4 teaspoons ACV in a 1 quart plastic waterer only. Fill with water and make a new batch daily.

Keep us posted!
