well my 8 peafowl eggs were all doing perfect..yesterday morning i went to open up the barn & let everyone out & found 6 of them out of the nest, ice cold...ugh.
out of the 6, 1 was cracked & bleeding a small amount of blood.
I took them in , along with the 2 still under the hens & warmed them back up, I also used wax on the cracked bleeding one.
well today i candeled & it looks like 6 are dead

What a shame, it is impossible to find peafowl eggs to buy here in MA..and shipping..well Ive only ever had 1 sucessful shipped egg hatch out of about 200..so im not even going to bother.

I was so excited for these to hatch this weekend.

I guess its time to buy a brinsea 'bator & throw out the little giant so that i can start hatching in the house all the time.

if anyone knows of anyone in the new england area who sells peafowl eggs or day olds..let me know, i would drive quite a ways to get them.
I just wont buy older ones, they dont tame up the same as when you hatch them yourself.

AWWWW GOSH DANG IT!!!

I'm so sorry to hear that!!!

I tried to hatch 40 eggs, and not one hatched (they were shipped).
When i hatch the ones around my farm, they hatch almost every time....

Sorry to hear that. Have you checked the UPA website? They have a state by state breeder listing. Should be somebody close by.

When I got home from work yesterday I was greeted by a pea chick sitting on the back of the couch - that is never a good sign. They knocked the top off of the brooder box and the only one the dogs killed was an Emerald Spaulding, There were some bourbon red turkeys here and there some ib's and which one do the dogs have to catch????? big sigh

Sorry to hear about your eggs, melissa508.
I hope you can find someone with peafowl within driving distance. I'm driving 6 hours round-trip to buy 2 week old peachicks soon... no more hatching for me.
I tried my luck with shipped eggs... 5 out of 6 were scrambled on arrival. Last egg had movement mid-June, but I don't think it made it through the last power outtage. (Had 2 outtages this hatch.)
The egg is due Thursday, so I guess I'll know soon enough.

How about the last 2 from your hatch... how are they faring?

Oh My!
Now that would be an upsetting loss!
Too bad there was a dead chick involved... otherwise, I think it would be kinda cute to find a peachick on the back of my couch and random poultry wandering about!

Melissa, yes the UPA has a breeder list. I also have a book with all UPA members more than the Web site.

PM me you zip I may be able to find some near You.

Sorry about the eggs.

I sat all 4 of them down to find out "who done it" but nobody was talking

The shipping egg thing just depends on the seller!! How they care for the birds ,eggs and packaging.

I use a GQF Sportsman. I have hatch 10 out 10 peachick. I hope it continues for the rest of the eggs. 30 more to go.

Again sorry about your eggs

well i found 1 more of the missing eggs. ice cold outside the nest kinda buried under hay...so thats 7 out of the 8 i started with

I have kept them all in the 'bator anyways. The crakd & bleeding one..inside theres a big blood pool & all the veins are gone..so id say its dead.

i decided to candle them when i was turning them & i saw movement in 3 of them..it wont be as nice as all of them or even most..but its something anyways.
My son broke my humidy thing..so now i have to guestimate how high it is.
out of the 3 wells ( 1 bigger middle) & 2 sides..i have the 2 sides filled. I have to keep openeing it for my other eggs & theres a muscovy hatching as i write this. he wont be ready until tomorrow id suspect..so maybe its best not to open the incubator until as late as possible tomorrow?? ..most of the eggs in there are pretty far along.. will be ok not to turn them as often (muscovy & guinea eggs)??
june 26th will be day 26 for the pea eggs ..should i bother to turn them or not ?..i know they sometimes hatch early.

Yes you should be ok, not turning them, but try once a day anyway. Eggs get cool off when the peahen get off to eat and etc.

Think you will hatch a few.
