I used to show chickens for 4H when I was a kid. We got silkies when I was 6 and we got a bit carried away when we got our own place. I think at one point we had 250 chickens on our 20 acres! We had them all through my early high school days and then sold the majority of the flock to other 4H kids. Its been about ten years since I had a chicken and I just bought my house so its time!

I don't have any chickens at the moment, though I'm getting a silkie roo from my coworker and I will be getting a variety of chickens for sure. Im most lookimg forward to silver sebrights! They seem to be hard to come by now but when I was a kid we had a few and they were my favorite.

I am a full time dog groomer, part time pet store employee. I have tons of pets and plan on also getting goats soon. I've always loved animals and finally having my own place is letting me realize my dream of psuedo-homesteading at last! Fresh eggs, milk, yogurt, cheese, its all going to be SO awesome.

Thanks for reading and hope to be around here for a long time!

:welcome I hope you enjoy it here! And I have goats for milking, as well as meat. It is nice to have all of those dairy products right in your backyard, instead of going to the store. One time, I was making brownies, and didn't have enough eggs, so what do I do? I go out to the backyard and collect some! Someone said, "Well that was the first time I have ever seen someone have to stop baking to go collect eggs for the recipe!"

Its such a great convenience! I'm really looking forward to the joys of livestock and the rewards of taking care of them. Its tough work sometimes but totally worth it. :3

Glad you joined us at Backyard chickens. I used to breed & show Cockers many years ago, and also did dog grooming during the "Poodle Boom," years.
