Wow! I am so glad your hatch was so good!
Of the two quail... one looked close enough to "done" that I eased it a bit out of the shell this morning before church.. and when I just now came back and checked on him, he was out all of the way all looks really good! PHEW! So, I promised , and I have 4! ABOUT TIME! (delivering what I have promised) quail #5 STILL doesn't look quite ready to hatch, but is also still alive... so not yet sure on him, one way or the other... but I have 4, so he can die if he wants to (sing with me now "It's his party and he can die if he wants to, die if he wants to...")![]()
As to the Leghorns![]()
They are hatching, and hatching properly.... except remember the one early hatcher was a single comb white leghorn... he does not look creamy enough to be a buff or a pyle..... just a plain white leghorn....
So I look in after church, and there are maybe 6 in there now... One might be an Echequer which is kinda cool.... But, right off hand I only say TWO with rose combs, one brown and the other a white (remember, I ordered 1 dozen rose comb dark browns, and one dozen rose comb white) but.... the white rose comb chick has a dent across its comb.. super odd.. AND A WRY NECK!
Isn't that a nutritional problem from the breeder? SHEESH! My nutrition is clearly not the best, but none of my chicks have hatched out with a wry neck!!![]()
I think I remember that if I feed the blasted chick vitamins it might turn out ok.... anyway... gonna search that now
Those are the CUTEST babies ever! And, they all look healthy, and none have wry neck![]()
Cali could use some of that rain, to bad you can't send it over. I'm just so glad the snow is finally gone up here. Went outside last night and along with the hundreds of frogs going nuts, I heard peepers! Almost forgot what they sound like peepers woohoo!
Every day for the last 2 weeks or so, still snow..... though today we alternated between snow, and hail, and a tiny bit of rain... rotating through all three, over and over and over again... crazy stupid weather
WOW! super silly bear!Well, now I finally know it's spring even if we might be getting a bit of snow tomorrow because we were visited by a bear last night.![]()
Fortunately my main garden/chicken fence took a beating but it held. Pa is outside right now bending it back up. This is not a lightweight fence but the heavier welded wire type. It appeared as tho "tubby" tried to climb the fence and sort of "squished" it. I'm surprised that the posts held but we did intentionally place them closer together so there would be no snow drift weight problem. Guess it works for bear weight too! Odd
thing is there is no sign he (or she) actually tried to go further once he squished the fence a bit. The fence didn't collapse that far so maybe he just didn't think it worth the effort.
Think I'll put the game cam out tonight and see if we can catch our visitor in the act. Oh, he did take a big bite out of the poinsettia I had set out on the back porch. Don't think he liked it tho cause he spit it out!![]()
