Dixie Chicks

I am going to check out all the heated waterers at Rural King and a local feed store today. Seems like they would have a way to remove the cord, like on a deep fryer. Electric is also a problem out there. I think DH said it is 300 feet from the garage to the coop. We have so many extension cords ran back there for one little lonely light.

Thanks for the words of encouragement on the hutch building @vehve ! You've seen pics of the coop. I am not a carpenter, and don't have money to spend on pretty coops and hutches. So, my animals are tougher than yours. LOL!

Have a good day. Gotta feed the fireplace.

Yeah! First welsummer egg! Not as dark or as spotted as I was hoping but it's bigger than my brown leghorn and eegr. How long should I wait before I try hatching some? I've never used a incubator before and wanted to try hatching some of them before trying it on cemani cross 'gold' eggs.

wow that's cold! Around what our wind chill usually is, we've been hanging around -12C had one night it was -31C wind chill. Hard to believe it was in the 10C just a couple weeks ago.
It gets colder, thankfully it doesn't last long. ~ 1 week ago I woke up to -36C... brrr

BC, are you getting frozen eggs? I have to get up early to check, and then again before work or I get frozen ones.
A few, if they aren't cracked I use them as normal. If they are cracked they go into the freezer until I need them.

Cool!! Congrats!

Well, usually it's either really cold, or it snows. Rarely ever come the 2 together.

Once temperatures get colder then -25C I don't notice much difference.. it's just too ding cold. The bad part is when you get to -10C and start walking around in a sweater (no jacket, no scarf, etc) only for temperatures to take a suicidal leap off a bridge back to -30. Feels colder then.

Kris: humidity makes a huge difference. We barely have any, where as at my parents place on the West Coast +2, can feel like a nasty bone chilling temperature.

People say cold is cold, but in my opinion it is not true. There is a dry cold and a humid cold... humid cold is bone chilling a lot faster!
