That works great and they love it!does anyone compost with their chickens? I've been thinking of setting up another compost ben out of pallets n leaving it open in the semi free range chicken area so they can scratch n pick thru the pile?
I wanted to weight them all, but wasn't fun getting one on the scale. I thought he would have weighed more than 8 1/2 pounds, eight months and they don't put on weight until they're over a yr. Better get 13 or more.![]()

They are. It was probably Cackle that they got them from. Cackle has some of the same stock as I do. Greg Oakes. Both of my pairs are supposed to throw SQ babies. I'll find out after this hatch since I'm keeping most of the Chanteclers I hatch.13lbs, jem, that's the standard weight.
@Razadia are those white ones your chanteclers? If they are, impressive. I saw someone else that had really nice big body ones from a hatchery.

Looks like he's trying to balance on a poker chip... next time weigh a plastic tote with the top on, then put him in and weigh... keeps them from walking off... think I have that same scale, lol...

Mine are 11 months old. They've always seemed a bit smaller than they should be. My 2 year old Production Reds (in another pen) are still bigger than a lot of this bunch, but smaller than my Buckeye hens (shown in these pictures) and Chanteclers.

have you been happy with the bunnys? when processing? I was worried they might be to boney for you?Jem, we kinda wing it on butchering time, when they look ready, they go to freezer camp. We are getting the next litter down there in three weeks though, so before that litter 3 needs to be processed.
I was thinking of starting with alum, supposedly that's the easiest way.
