Dixie Chicks

Anybody been out to the Green Fire Farms site lately? They've got a whole mess o' nouvelle breeds for sale. Bizarre names and even more bizarre looks.

Hmm. I've been checking out GreenFire's site quite regularly. Haven't looked at it lately apparently. They do have a few new cool breeds that I haven't seen yet. The most shocking thing though was how much their prices have come down, many of their new breeds are a lot better priced than I have saw in the past. Then I clicked on the Ayam Cemanis, and the Svart Hönas (Swedish Black Hens)
ep.gif

they never offered them as chicks before!!! Ayam Cemani were $3,000 a breeding pair and Svart Höna $3,500 a breeding pair. Now Cemani chicks are $200 each for chicks and Svart Höna $100.
I'm going to have to rethink my plans. I'll still buy the cemani NNeck crosses $80 a young breeding pair, but I'll probably get a trio, just so I can start fibroflock NOW, but I don't think I'll get the pure cockerel at $400 negotiable. I think I'll have to pass on the crossed hatching eggs, to much of a risk. We plan on going to Florida next year and can bring some back and not worry about shipping. I would be better off dumping my $ into some pure Svart Hönas, price might come down some more by then. The guy I was going to get the cemani red leghorn cross eggs from wants $20 each said he has pure Svart Höna eggs, $45 each. GreenFire says the will guarantee shipments of six for 72hrs after delivery, but you can order fewer with no warranty, I didn't know they would ship so few, swear their website said 15 recently. I think I'll pick up six Svart Hönas next year and bring them back myself, they are hardier in cold weather than Cemanis (probably because they have acclimated to Swedish weather) and a little heavier.
GEE WILLIKERS! I hate plan changes! But if it saves $ I guess its OK. and I'll still be able to have some black meat chicken soup soon, still going to get the cemani naked neck crosses, naked necks are supposed to be a good dual purpose, good meat bird, and hardy in cold weather which seems weird with their lack of feathers.

My utilty room and Laundry

I have a room for the water heater Water filters and Breaker box........ I would like a whole house filter here instead of the breaker box. I believe I can turn the breaker box around without moving it and it would be exterior of the house. Of course it would have to have a water tight box built around it. But that wall would eventually be inside the Summer kitchen space. The actuall door to it would be at the kitchen window....

Oh and those filter canisters only hold paper water filters and they get clogged in three months... I have pulled the filters out .... I had to pull the faucet filters off when i did that. Because they would fill with the sand that clogged the filters. I have no problems drinking or washing with sand in the water....

Not even sure what these cover.... they dont respond to much in the house.

The living room is dead but I have power to the kitchen Where the furnace used to be. That breaker goes to the box that covered the refrigerator and the furnace. Thos have been capped as best as I could Bare wire exposed capped with a wire nut and Black tape. There used to be a washing machine installed in the kitchen too. The last breaker is labled for the washer.

I have washer and dryer in a different room. And that is now the laundry room.

Here is the laundry room:

breaker box

Its lables say Bobs, living room, green house, Booster pump... But there are many more than that.....I know the Booster pump one coveres exterior lighting as well as water pum to serve the hosebibs. Then It also covers a live wire that terminates at an external single receptical mounted on a T post. Its in the back yard adjacent to the sceptic tank. I have seen older satelite pictures and there was a trailer there. but that outlet has no lid... so the best I could do is cover it with a piece of 4 inch diameter PVC pipe. The wire is directly buried in the ground No Conduit. I keep that breaker off at all times. I do turn it on if I have to wash something or back wehn the chickens were here I would turn it on to blow out the water tubs for when I cleaned their waterers.

It provided too much pressure for the tank valves though. Just as well.

Laundry room

About a quarter of the stuff you see belonged to Mule. The door and the bright window open to the car port. The door opens in toward the room not toward the wall. I want to put that door where the window is and he window where the door is. What that would allow me to do is open the door and easily walk into the room. Then I can put a folding table to finsh the distance between the dryer and Under the breaker box.... Now I can put storage under the table .... I also want to put wire racking to cover the whole wall from end to just above the washer. For hanging clothes and putting vacuum bagged bedding on the top shelf.

Washer and dryer wall the washer is covered with some sort of striped blanket that belonged to Mule.

That door into the house sits ontop of a cinderblock foundation wall that maks the parimeter of the main house. The height is approximately 32 inches. I cannot go up those steps to get to that door. It is currently locked. I open the door to shove stuff like boxes in the house or drag stuff from the house into the room.

There is a space between the steps and the wall that collects junk. I want to build a full on landing here from wall to just the other side of the door. Its a large door so I suspect its 36 inches I want a three by five foot landing with hand rail. Between the washer and the landing will be a bin for dirty clothes. Then the steps into the room will take their time lowering me down... There is not room for a ramp.... But I can divide the steps into more to make the steps smaller than the twelve inches they are already. But what ever i do there will be handrails... Handrails are my friend for climbing steps.

I have a lot to do.

First things first.... clean.

and YEP that is white berber carpet....

NOT my choice.

If I buy wine, I buy the box stuff (now that's class!), fits in fridge good, easy to refill, wife don't know how many I had. I'm not good with wine, tend to drink it like beer, or cool aid. Chugging 10-12 percent wine isn't good.
Hennible just use a pint mason jar. I use a quart one for my beer, fits a 24oz can of Labbat Ice with head.

Box wine drinker myself.... keep it in my room. thats where I can watch TV undisterbed. I drink dry reds so they are good at room temp.

Hmm, what would a door open to if not something like that? I don't think I've ever been in a house without some sort of foyer...

I actually know some people that live up here, close to me, and they built their 'dream home' withOUT a mud porch.

Boggles the mind.

You opened their front door right into their great room.

Anyway... pictures of my mud porch:

Mom used to roll her own cigarettes to cut down on cost... She used Zig Zags occasionally back then you could get them at 7/11... They had litte water pipes and just pipes there as well. Till someone caught on what they were selling... Boy that display case vacated like over night.

She eventually got one of those cigarette machines that rolled one that had to be cut into five....pretty cool invention... I liked working it. but she quit smoking one day with a half a pack of cigarettes sitting on the coffee talbe.... She was a pack a day smoker. What she did was kept the pack there incase she wanted one.

It sat on the coffee table for two years before she finally threw it away.

I love all the storage!!! I'm envious and I think someone has the same rubber boots as me, the blue Viking ones
