Dixie Chicks

@BriardChickens , x2 on the netti pot. Keep your mouth open and your head tilted to proper angle. Otherwise you get a mouthful of

. I get a bad sinus infection about once a year. That thing works wonders for me. I also take over the counter allergy tablets when it strikes and cough meds if needed. Better to take care of it early, then wait until it settles into bronchitis.

@vehve , the heated waterer looks like a great project. Let us know how it works.

Interview went well, I think. You never know what I am up against, right? They said they will call within 2 weeks to let me know either way. Time to clean house and get the isolation coop ready for more chickens

Thanks, i'll go refresh my memory on proper netti pot.

any other ideas?

That feed would last 2 weeks here @vehve . We go thru 3 x 50#bags every 2 weeks. 53 chickens....14 are roosters. Feels like I'm raising pigs.

@Amberjem , I love my Dixie rainbow. The only bad quality I have found is she is so heavy that she will not go to roost. I have even put roost bars down low (like 1 and 2 feet off the ground), So, she roosts on the ground which has caused burn on her stomach. If I am out there, I put her on the roost. She is very friendly, just HUGE. She is the same size as my Jersey Giants. I will be getting more from the feed store this year if they have them again.

Well today is the big day. An hour away. The hour that can change my life. I have serious hesitation about getting a new job. I am more of a creature of habit and not exactly one to embrace change. This job is only part time which means no insurance. And it's now a law in the USA that you have to have medical insurance. I pay $600 a month for medical, dental, life, and vision. If I get this job, I will have to do some insurance shopping to do. Also clothing shopping! Its hard to start over at any age, I guess. But I am going to try my darnedest. Maybe this is MY YEAR!

Thanks so much for all the well wishes. It helps. You all are like my circle of friends. I recently lost a huge circle of friends at work, about 8 months ago all my friends started quitting, moving on, finding other jobs. Change of management ripped that place that used to feel like home apart. I have been looking, but knowing that management has changed SO MANY TIMES in the past 17 years. But like I said earlier, I have many reasons for leaving. Management doesn't scare me.

I shouldn't say I "lost" my friends. We still email, talk, or text, but it's not frequent. Life changes.

Off my soap box.....The CCL breeder messaged me back. If we can get together, I am buying them this weekend

. I have to get the quarantine coop together with dividers for the roosters. The winds blew down a side wall and ripped apart the main house a few months ago and I have had no need for it recently. I'd better get ready for my busy day! Hope everyone has a wonderful day!

I wish you so very much to kick some tushie!! Best of luck change can be scary but sometimes it is amazingly awesome!! and it's living! we will need lotsa pictures of the ccll's :) maybe share opne of the rainbow also :) pretty pls hehehe

No hatching yet. Hmph. But 3 blue eggs this morning so far, 1 with blood  so I'm about to take no pick, salve, towels etc outside to see which of the blue egg layers is bleeding on eggs and why.

The fun and excitement never end. On other news, we pick up a barn kitty/mouser tonight. I'm excited, the mice are just getting to be too much at this point, they laugh at all our attempts to get control of them. And the squirrels.

The crowing contest going on with 4 ayam cemani is making me batty. Anyone want any ac roos

Old wives' tale says to get one with an M on its forehead as they're the best mousers. Our orange tabby** was a fab hunter (big M on forehead), whereas our black tuxedo cat would literally sit and watch the mice scurry from one hiding place to the next....useless.

**some of the things she brought home: An endless supply of mice, voles and gophers, a baby rabbit, assorted rat hams, quail, and a woodpecker which was still alive, escaped, and hung upside down from the ceiling screaming at us. What's even more amazing was this cat was clawless. How she snagged gophers I don't know.....

A neti pot is a short squat teapot shaped thing that you fill with saline solution and then stick the spout into your snout to flush out all the impurities from your sinuses. You stand over a sink and tilt your head to the side and try not to drown.
