Dixie Chicks

Her feet looked good. She tried to stand once, think she could but I didn't let her.
I have Khaki Campbell ducks. Excellent layers and funny to watch. Not to friendly, they scare easily.

Poor thing. Hope she gets better soon. Glad you found her when you did.

Morning all! 'Tis January for the retail world which means boss cut hours. UGH! They wanted to know yesterday if anyone would like to take voluntary time off......Ummmm, I would love to take a few years off!

But I have bills to pay; people, chickens, rabbits, and dogs to feed.

Something super cool happened. My brother was helping clean up the shop where he works & they were throwing out big panels of glass. These things are like 6'x3'. He brought them to me thinking "greenhouse material". Which is good and probable. Anyways I also thought I could put one or two of those panels in the new coop for natural lighting for the chickens. New coop is on the wish list for this summer. It was last summer to though. Just had too much going on.

We want to get some solar panels for the house. Does anyone use solar panels? I recently seen a house online in Ohio where they have been living off the grid for decades. I was super impressed. We want to move towards that direction.

Haha Sam, poop in your ear... For some reason this reminded me of you too

@chickwhispers Yeah, the horizontal ones would be better, but all of my horizontal nipples are on the inside waterers, so I've only got vertical ones. I'm trying to figure this out with stuff I've got laying around. Also, I'm a bit worried about getting a proper seal reusing the nipples on the outside waterer, but I suppose I can worry about that when they start leaking and not in advance.

@Aliciahess I also want to see bee hive pics! I hope the duck is feeling better by the time you read this.

JWB, Nice score with the glass!

Hey, everyone! 1000 posts behind, lol... That's what happens when you're hunting rats, lol.
I only skimmed through so waaay behind...

Amberjem, congrats on HAL win and your anniversary!! Gorgeous pics, thank you for posting them, I miss that ferry and those islands...

NAF, great mealworm setup, I wanna look into raising those...

Hennible, great coop plans! I love the layout and design...

BC, if you can find a Mennonite who is selling something you want, buying from them is a great ice-breaker to ask about processing services...

Deb, that is a gorgeous red coop and those are awesome looking processing tables. Oh, and where do you find bales of rice hulls? You got me curious about trying that out...

Ummm, can't remember anything else, brain overload, too many posts, lol...

Oh, Amberjem, if nobody answered you, keep chicks on starter til 10 weeks, then you can switch them to grower/finisher (all flock feed). Oh, and I have sprouted wheat w/BOSS, did ok. Used a couple of cheap aluminum cake pans w/lids, punched holes in pan and set lids under to catch drips with dowels in between to keep roots out of sitting water. You can sprout any hard wheat sold as a non-perishable food source, too. Usually in the survival/stock up supplies areas. Walmart and Sams Club sells 26 lbs buckets, think its by Aubusson Farms, and it sprouts good.

Ahhhhhhh.... time to take a breath... lol...

Oh that is a good one @vehve !!

It was only -2C at my house, my work is about 10km south and it's +1C!!! We are right by a big lake so it tends to stay a few degrees colder then at my work or in town. Anyway, that is at least a 36°C difference to two weeks ago!!! What kind of winter is this????

BC, you can have local changes at even shorter distances. It can be +2C here by the house, but 50 meters into the woods the surface of the snow will still be frozen. That's pretty freaky.

I totally believe that. We are located right by a big lake. Our place remains a few degrees colder until the last bit of ice is off the lake, as late as middle of May. Last year the lake had at least 3-4ft of ice on it

Good Morning Everyone!

Here is what it looks like in Lee County, Illinois this morning. We have a hoar frost! 1F but beautiful!!
