heard there was some issue with the hay last year also that caused the prices to go up least around here...

been awhile since I got hay though or priced it

Drought... caused the hay prices to go up from 17 dollars a bale to 21... for hay for feed. Japan started buying alot from us too.

Square bales of good hay are $3- $5, straw $7. Seems expensive to me, ten yes ago it was a dollar. Only a few farms still make square bales. Some farms that don't have cows anymore still hay because of the $ and it keeps their fields clean. Most square bails go for horses. Around here the majority of farms do round bails and wrap them in plastic still wet and green, they call it baleage, supposed to be better for milk cows, still looks fresh when you rip them open, smells funny though.

that last can ONLY be fed to cows.... it will kill a horse
