Dixie Chicks

omgosh I did that one night... I try to hold them everyday fuss with their wings get them use to me touching them handling them ect....and I was watching tv as was holding on totally fell asleep woke up and nugget was just snuggled against me sleeping too....

Jim does this almost every night, lol... He just woke up in a panic looking for Larry... I couldn't help but laugh!

ahh kewl yeah mine hatched the 1st.. they are so ragged looking with the fuzz and feathers all mixed up as the feathers come in......... lol

Yup, I love the unfinished gangly look they get, lol... Larry started out yellow, but his wings are coming in with black and has a purple sheen to them, with red on his body... his daddy is Cheeky, my single comb EE in my avatar and his mom is a PR... Cheeky is the most awesome roo, I hope Larry gets his temperament...

I'm getting better at being able to tell earlier and earlier, but Am's I still have to wait til they get their sex feathers for the most part.
Larry is definitely a cockerel, his comb was prominent when he hatched and is huge now, lol. It's easier when you have several with same or similar parents to compare to each other.

It also helps to not be in denial anymore and trying to convince yourself that a cockerel is a pullet just cuz that is what you want. I did that for a long time with Jim's Lav Orp, lol. He's crowing now, no more denial. ;)

Yup, I've accepted that all our chicks are dudes...

Ravyn, you were talking about a compost, post a pic of the spot you're thinking of putting it in in my compost thread and we'll try to think of something.

hahahaha I did that with betty/Butler..heck I even suspected he was a cockerel when I got him..........

I was still hoping I was wrong LOL at this point the big birds matty and butler are cockerels.......spike is probly a pullet unless it's being a sneaky polish poser.....mattys days were numbered right up until I started noticing he is starting to display blue laced red feathering now.......I really love that feathering pattern and with the puffy cheeks and apparently faster growing it's tempting to let that breed thru in off spring...but I really like Butlers temperament and he has a good size if just a bit slower growing...and he has java/faverollie in him
