Dixie Chicks

JW, that's what I'm going for too. This injured chick might not be the best example of that, but he was pretty strong when we found him so we decided to treat the wound. It's a good case study on the healing of chicken wounds too.

BC, but that's actually a really smart idea. And could be duplicated with better looking materials pretty easily. Pretty similar to the "Palju":s we've got here. Wooden hot tubs that air wood heated.

Beer, personally I'm not a fan of caponizing, but to each his own.

I want a hot tub but between the dogs, chickens, and ducks I'm afraid there wouldn't be room in it for DW and me.

@JW12 , That is how we raise our chickens also. Survival of the fittest. I almost culled the one with the bad eye, but now she is a hen laying beautiful perfect eggs. I will not hatch out any of her eggs, just in case it is something genetic. Shame too because she is only offspring I have from my partridge cochin.

I have not heard back from the breeder of CCL

. Thinking he already sold them. Plan B.

@Amberjem , I too have a SS roo. Got him as a chick in summer 2013. Here is a pic of him this past fall. He was showing attitude when I snapped the pic.

Here is one of his babies. Cross with RIR hen. Unfortunately she was ate by DHs English setter.

the boss froze his hot tub during the cold snap so my DH is getting another project once the hot tub isn't an ice rink anymore

our hot tub literally has 8 jets (maybe 12?), so yay new hot tub when we figure out how to get it over to our place!!!

@Amberjem , My take on SS is that my rooster is perfect.

He has given me attitude a time or two. (Boys will be boys. Right?) But he has been the best rooster towards the hens. I have purchased more SS pullets & chicks then I care to count. Some have died from unknown causes, some I suspect Marek's. They were never tested, but displayed all symptoms. I have also had 4 of them fly into the hunting dogs kennel. (Committed suicide.) Had a few RIR do this as well. Maybe the dog was luring them..."Here chicky chicky".

or it was the dog food. Anyways I don't have this problem with the other breeds we have. EE, OE, Jersey Giants, Austrolorp, and whatever else we have out there. So my opinion is that the rooster is great, the hens are stupid. I am not sure if I am going to rehome my SS this year or try again (3rd time is a charm?). Depends on what happens with CCL breeder.
