Yes, @chickwhispers, CCL means Crested Cream Legbar, there are some w/out crests, thanks, Krista for responding, I am cooking right now, lol...
@Amberjem yes that is normal for a broody, pinkening comb is connected with health/nutrition/laying...
As for the Bresse finishing food, Sam knows more than me, I didn't really research it cuz I have no plans to keep Bresse...

@NotAFarm Love the pictures! Love the chicks and hens! Love your nest box.
I have a similar one. It had 15 originally but that was too many for me and the bottom 5 were in really rough shape, so I removed them. Picked it up at an auction for $25.

Yep, I love my chicks and hens and the nest box, too! A chicken buddy of mine was selling some items at friend's house and was mentioning that she had some chicks she was raising for layers. The friend said she had a couple of nest boxes up in a barn that had been her parents and would the chicken buddy be interested. The chicken buddy called me, I said sure I would come and take a look. Drove the pick-up down and couldn't believe what good shape they were in. We each paid $20 for them. I put mine in the coop, the chicken buddy cleaned hers up and put it in her basement crafting area. Each hole has different crafting items in it. Later we found a couple of other ones, a bit different but metal and 10 holes that she put in her coop. We like to do "chickening recon" when ever we get a chance.

ok backish had to bring the chicks in and rangle violet she was trying to escape... she loves following me around lol she is so funny to watch when I come up she comes running with her galllooping wattle stride makes me laugh so hard.......... so I was fussing with the chicks and I left one in the brooder box all alone...wow talk about vocal unhappy scream lol...violet got all fussy and was sending her hen distress sound out they girls were all around the brooder box checking out the chicks with interest... on a side note... I noticed all the girls combs are pinkening up now maybe we might have some laying soon

also I had noticed when violet went broody for 18 days her comb paled a wee bit and today after three days not brooding it's darkening back to a dark red......... is this typical?
Yes. Hormones have everything to do with the color of wattles and combs. Hens sitting, molting or even ill will "lose color" in their combs and wattles as energies are put elsewhere. The color of the wattles and comb are a signal to the males that the females are "target rich" for perpetuating their line.

Jem, like Ravyn said, it's normal for a broody to go pale. The paleness is a sign of malnutrition, which obviously someone spending all day sitting in a nest instead of eating will suffer from. That's why being broody for too long can kill birds. Also, if they start going pale for no apparent reason, it's time to think parasites, illness, or change of feed.
