Dixie Chicks

Yep, I love my chicks and hens and the nest box, too! A chicken buddy of mine was selling some items at friend's house and was mentioning that she had some chicks she was raising for layers. The friend said she had a couple of nest boxes up in a barn that had been her parents and would the chicken buddy be interested. The chicken buddy called me, I said sure I would come and take a look. Drove the pick-up down and couldn't believe what good shape they were in. We each paid $20 for them. I put mine in the coop, the chicken buddy cleaned hers up and put it in her basement crafting area. Each hole has different crafting items in it. Later we found a couple of other ones, a bit different but metal and 10 holes that she put in her coop. We like to do "chickening recon" when ever we get a chance.

Yes. Hormones have everything to do with the color of wattles and combs. Hens sitting, molting or even ill will "lose color" in their combs and wattles as energies are put elsewhere. The color of the wattles and comb are a signal to the males that the females are "target rich" for perpetuating their line.
ohh your so lucky to have a chicken recon buddy to do chickeny things with...

......so I am happy to have a few "go to girls" and a couple of farmer neighbors to share the madness with!

The chicken buddy mentioned does my chicken chores when we go out-of-town to visit family and I do hers when she needs me to. Everyone needs chicken buddies!!

ya @Sharps Big 50 isnt into it infact he doesnt even want to deal with a buncha "farm management" as he says with any of the pets he isnt a zoo kepper lol///////but he has come more on board with the chickens.. mostly because he can see how much I enjoy them... he howegver is a big ole softie with the animals.. and I see him sneaking time with them when he doesnt think anyone is looking and if I do NOT point it out lol..........

Great score, NAF, those aren't cheap around her, no matter how old they are, lol...
Awesome pic, Kris!!
Jem, my EE went broody, she abandoned the eggs on day 20 (they ended up not being viable) and then went into a hard molt... she was skinny and ragged for 2 months, just now is looking more like her old self again, lol...
