this is the duckweed I harvest for my chickens from one of my tanks...the plant reproduces with a rap[id rate one duckweed plant can multiple by thre within a 24 hour period... so this has the potential of rapid and quickly generating fodder for the chickens with lil time or energy producing it with the protein % duckweed can give it is also a inexpensive way to give a protein boost

ok, so duckweed depending on the species can have from 17% to 40% protein content... propagating it can be as easy as tossing some into your fish tank and harvesting as it produces or as complicated as setting up mini ponds to harvest the duckweed to feed to the animals, or a simple system using buckets and air pump...... does anyone else use duckweed as a fodder or have they fed the chickens or rabbits or other livestock with it?

What do you see as the benefit of growing your own, fodder, sprouts, duckweed to feed your livestock? or using it as a supplement treat type of food? anyways just curious on everyone's thoughts over this...

I saw folks posting abt BOSS sprouts so I jarred up a bunch and 4 days later. woo hoo sproutfest! Then I got busy and forgot to reset the jars. *ADD brain and all* I need a better system, when I work out the kinks I'll post it. They loved them though. I never heard so much " come over here and try this out" squawking from these birds. LOL

Lose my brain when resetting mine, too... I sprout wheat and BOSS in throwaway cake tins punched full of holes and the lids under them. Works ok for now, lol...

@Amberjem the only thing that comes to mind when I saw your duckweed is the chickweed that grew rampant and wild in Skagit... is that similar or no?
