Dixie Chicks

Bama, don't forget about Last Man On Earth tonight!!!
Awesome chicks jem!
Do you breed pure also bama? What's the reason for the crosses?
Experiment or Heterosis/hybrid vigor? Or because ice cream bars are cool Lol!

I had company and missed it again.
These crosses are the product of my laziness.
Im getting a cabinet gqf bator in May. Im gonna have them seperated for $$$ chicks.

I feel a little left out over here. No rare breeds around here. I guess you could say my Black Australorp is rare. Rare that anyone on FB actually IDs them right.

Keeping them separate costs $$. I'm going to spend as much on coop expansion as I am chicks! Or more! I want to keep the Welsummers and my other egg chickens, brown leghorns and EEgrs in the existing coop, gotta keep them because I like the multi color eggs (no darn blue! I think all the EE are laying now got a new pretty large really green to go with the two olives, darn it I want a blue egg too!) The cemani crosses I think are going in a large tractor. The white jersey giants are going to be separate, and the langshans need to be separated, and now I'm thinking both colors need to be separate! Wasn't planning on that!
Sand Hill says;
Blue Genetics -
Basic Mendelian genetics lack of dominance. A blue-blue mating will result in 50% blue offspring, 25% black and 25% of what is called splash. Splash can be various shades but is basically a "dirty" bluish white with darker bluish black splotches. Do not expect 100% blue chicks from us when ordering a blue breed. It is best to keep blues, blacks and splashes together in the same pen. A black to splash mating produces blue.

I want all three, splash, black and blue, I think I'm going to have to keep the black and blue separate until I get their population up. I know you like your Brahmas, but I just find these more perty, and they lay more eggs than brahmas, and still are super tall but not as heavy, and have feathered feet.
I just love this pic

And a blue hen

Next set to hatch are all chickens... Marans, Olive Eggers and some mixes, which will be super fun to see what I get.

The mixes are for roosters: my HETEROzygous rose Comb dark brown leghorn and my Dominique

and I tried to get brown eggs only from the Dominique hens, but I could have snagged one from the Golden Comets of White Cochins

and then I tried to get white eggs only from my single comb white leghorns, rose comb white leghorns, rose comb dark brown leghorns... but... I think a couple are from my golden penciled Hamburgs.
