It is weird how some times odd colors come out, lol... I just got a solid black chick from some Silver Duckwing OEGB eggs... lady said that she got a single birchen from them once... will be interesting to see what it feathers out like...

Morning!

More of the lawn is visible already. There's about half an inch to an inch of snow left, and it's raining. Judging by the amount in the forest (about 50 yards from our front yard) we got about 6-7 inches of the white stuff yesterday. I still find it very freaky that the forest seems to be in a completely different season. The snow had melted from there already, but now it's going to stay for a while I think, more snowfall is predicted this week.

The pictures above are the favorite from the ones you posted. I really like that kind of color, a bit like wheaten, which is maybe my second favorite color. I think I like the jubilee/ mille fluer color best.

it isn't freaky Vehve! it is called sunshine verses shade.

The sun, like what you get in your yard, makes a big difference.

Al, the spot I'm comparing to is a clearing in the forest, about 50 by 70 yards. And it's higher than the rest of the forest, it does get it's share of sunshine... not that we've had much this spring except for the two weeks in the beginning of March.

well, either the forest is still managing to cast quite a bit of shade there (you do live in the world of the slanty sun.... it does not come straight down from the sky), or, that little clearing is higher up enough that it is also colder.

I see that all the time on my property. I am on the side of a hill, but one that goes up kinda like soft hills, a slope up, then an almost flat for a bit, then a slope up...repeat.


At the beginning of my driveway, there are deciduous trees, then with my driveway there are no deciduous trees, but some deciduous bushes, and lots of spruce, then as you get higher the spruce thin out and it is just short stuff.

also, you can get little bits of air inversion spots, where there is a spot that is just colder than everything around it, or warmer than everything around it... depending on the way the air currents go.

I like looking for that sort of thing.

that is also why we are so cold all summer long.... that stupidly cold giant bay right at my feet. Of course, that is also why we don't usually hit bone cracking cold.... it wants to keep the temperatures nice and constant
