Actually had several helpers... our other neighbors and their kids... Jacob is dating their oldest girl and he tracked down and caught most of the survivors... he was awesome, so I let him pick what he wanted...

Dog ripped apart 2x4 welded wire and finished off the entire pen...

This is my silkie coop for now.

... My silkies will be getting a permanent pen under a tree. They do not take the heat well. And since they are broody like all summer, I got a little coop that;s all open in the front so they can sit in there till the cows come home and not get overheated.

I have heard Silkies dont handle the heat. I had two up at my place before the predator attack.... Two roos funnier than heck. They seem to handle the 100 degree heat just fine... they were in a 6 x 12 enclosure with another roo and about three Welsummer hens .... for entertainment... LOL.

They had a dog crate for a house which resided under a folding table... At first they used it for night time.... then one day I had my back turned it was around bed time and I was finishing up in the Wellie pen. The Auracana Roo and three hens were up six feet on their roost settling down for the night... I heard a MIGHTY Flap Flap Flap .... And there was the Black silkey settling in on the saw horse I had put in there as a launch point for the taller roost...

He was mighty proud of himself... I said "Look at you all perching and stuff" he fluffed his feathers and hunkered down. The blue splash roo was peering at him then turned around and went into HIS dog crate.... The Black silky it seems had about three or four flight feathers on his wing tips.

I guess the difference heat wise for me is there IS no humidity here... In the summer it runs between 10 and 15 percent. I do know they would walk in their water to cool off... smart birds.
