Dixie Chicks

I hear ya Alaskan.  I have 7silkie roos and 3 pullets.  I may have to separate most into a bachelor pad.  Good thing I love the little fluffy roos.

Yep... Those will need to be split up! :D

I had to take out two from my grow outs... The grow outs are in a spot that is getting too small for them... They keep growing, and I can't yet put them in with the rest of my flock.... They just need to hold out a few more weeks.....

The two I took out had lost some feathers... But I wonder a bit if something had started the feather picking... Since only those two have any feather loss at all

Anyway, the two I removed I tossed into the vegetable garden with some growing out ducks. :D they are looking happy.

I so super hope you get a fantastic hatch

Love my adopting broody... :)

I am jealous! None of the broodies that I had this year would take chicks!!!!

I am super glad for you though!

Oh, sorry for you! :(

She started with 3 and has taken 2 at a time every other day for the last week, lol... she just lifts up and they snuggle under... I don't even know how many she has now... :lau

Hey, what do you all think of this, egg hatched under light, little chick, other two eggs must be duds, poor little thing has no friends, what are the chances of sneaking it under mamma broody snap dragon at night under her butt and having her take it in? adopt it, her own chick four days younger then the two she has? Wife doesn't want me to try it, but I don't think it is good for it to be alone.

What the frill! I didn't want any more chicks! Why did I let her set! This brings us up to over thirty darn chickens! We don't need that many! WHY!!??

I'd try it, but my broody's are crazy adopters anyways... I just hold out the chick and they take 'em... :idunno

Ravyn... I would buy your broody for $50... Yes I would! :D

Which one? ;)

My Am broody had 3 she hatched and I gave her 18 from the bator in the next 2 days after that... she raised 21 with no issues... :D

Maybe it's cuz I check them over and put my hands on them every day, I dunno... if a broody doesn't let me 'handle' her, I don't let them brood chicks...

@Beer can , I'd put the chick right under her at night & observe her the next day with it. I've had successful adoptions, and not successful. Good luck.

My pullet finally died. I treated her for coccidiosis. Man at the feed store showed me pics that when you do a necropsy, you can see nodules on a chicken with coccidiosis. She was a Cuckoo Maran. I was super excited about the dark eggs I was going to get from her. I think I still have one more pullet. 2 turned out to be roos. Keeping one for breeding purposes. Breed him with EEs and OEs.

In one of our pens we have a PERFECT SS! Too bad it's a roo. He is a mix, but looks just like his daddy! The speckles coming out are just gorgeous!

He is the most friendly out of that pen. Going to try to rehome him instead of butcher......I just have a soft spot for some.

Funny story: When our neighbor down the road wanted a rooster, DD offered up her favorite rooster-"Sunshine"-a GLW. We came home to get him and take him there, she started crying

"I don't want to give away Sunshine! He is the best rooster ever! He has never flogged me! Please Mom! Can't we just tell them we don't have any?" After careful consideration, as not to spoil the already spoiled child, I said, "Since they don't know which one Sunshine is, we can give them another rooster and call him Sunshine. A couple weeks later they came over all upset that a raccoon had got "Sunshine". So, DD went to the back, picked up the real Sunshine and told them, "You can have this one. He's a better rooster anyways." Guess she's not as spoiled as I thought.

@RavynFallen , The chick is so cute! I think sometimes we fuss too much over humidity. I think it's the temp that matters most.

@Alaskan , I've got broody hens!!! $$$$$ LOL!
