Dang.... Blasted power is out AGAIN.

Late October of 2011 we had an early snow while the leaves were still on the trees. Massive power outages that lasted 9 days for us. Portable generator chugging away. Late October 2012 Hurricane Sandy arrived. Widespread power outage lasting 12 days for us. I smelled so bad the Princess refused to cuddle. Spring of 2013 we had a generator installed that will run the whole house fueled by a 500 gallon propane tank. I refuse to live without cuddling.

50 years at this location, and these are the only two times that power has been out that long. I won't chance another too old for that.

Yeah... We get lots of power outages.. A pretty common thing.


Usually less than a week, but not always.

Our power outages usually only last a few hours at the most. Few years ago our power was out for three days, no generators available anywhere. I called a TSC 45min away, they just got a pallet in, then told me it probably wasn't worth driving up, there was a line of people waiting. I have one now, only a 4,000 watt. Not big enough to run the whole house, but enough for the essentials, and runs a heck of a lot longer on a tank of gas compared to a big one. That's the main thing I looked for, run time.
Plan on putting together a wood gas generator sometime, runs of a small wood fire. Never run out of fuel. They make them big enough to run whole towns.
I want to build something like this, but different, I've got a plans in my head...

Anyone heard of keeping a single goose raised with some chicks or ducks as a flock gard? Great idea or terrible?

Those three days without power was pretty cool, like camping in the comfort of your own home. Big chest freezer stayed good and froze. Had a ton of froze gallon and two liter jugs that kept the fridge good. Oldest daughter went insane without the wifi and Facebook Lol! Ever watch 'Jerhico'?

Goose watchdog for chickens, on another thread someone keeps one for that purpose, and it is working out good for them @JRNash maybe??. Actually I never thought of it, might be a great idea.
