Yup I've read it. I just read it again.
Last one to hatch I pulled from the bator pretty fast (apparently too fast) it has omphalitis. Surprised it is not dead already. Attempting treatment. If no improvement I'll cull it tomorrow.

Ugh, so sorry... I had 1 Call with that in my big hatch... it was awful...

That bites!

I had one that hatched sticky and foamy... I kinda think that is an infection too.... It was from a washed egg. I have it in the incubatir still, we shall see.

I also have two super slow hatchers... Dunno about those either.

I was just able to split the incubator in half... But that was all I needed, to segregate the green egg crosses from the blue egg crosses.

Turns out only the Doms have white spots on their heads, yeah.

Of the 5 spitz, 3 have clear spitz noses... As for the other two, hopefully the horns will pop up.

Mmmm. ..Unbelievably awesome. Smells like chocolate and vanilla, but doesn't taste sweet at all. Better than smores.

I'm so wanting spring to get here. Need to move my garden clearers/fertilizers. They have another 14x50' section to mud. Been in the 40-50s last few days but ground still froze. I was outside all day splitting wood so they got to come out and play.

Debating selling red sussex or eating them. Boy are they meaty.
Got 13 eggs from 15 today, only two that didn't lay were a polish and brownleghorn. No white eggs for awhile, off with their heads soon.

Too early to start any plants here. Been saving nice oak from log pile for mushroom plugging.
Got some halved sweet potatoes soaking, going to try starting my own slips. Might be too early for them IDK? Never grew sweet potatoes before or started slips. If it's too early I'll have some cool vines in the windows until it's time..?
Scored five barrels from work, going to halve them to grow sweet taters in.

Why get rid of the Sussex? Want only one breed?

I would like to keep them, just think I'm getting in over my head. Keeping giants for sure, keeping EEgrs and two EE Welsummer cross.
Planning on ordering some Naked Necks and should have some Cemanis soon...Someone has to go, wife won't get rid of the kids. Feed is getting $$$...

been lagging on getting seeds going started this week got tomatoes, chinese cabage, leek, couple other cold crops......got somemore asparagus , a wisteria and a rose for my moms memorial rose garden...and been transplanting some container plants into their new perm home.....and mulching the beds.... going to remove the flower bed at the end of the coop run out so can put a door and extend the fence when the tree is finished being removed ...and add a clean out door on the other side of the coop expansion for clean out

I won't be starting any seeds until next month. Asparagus is the first one from seed I will be starting...think it takes like three months. Our first "set out" day is beginning of June--you plant sooner than that and my MIL use to say you just lose everything.

When are you aiming to have seedlings (obviously hardened off) set out?

Garden is still blanketed in snow and lots of snow/ice has melted off. Course the negatives are saying now we're in for a drought...har har...trying to set us up again for $150/round hay again I suppose. There was NO drought in these parts...and none as far as Olds since we saw bountiful left to rot bales in the fields this weekend. I hate how we pay for things people think up to jack prices when last year should have had cheap hay for a change...oh well.

Found out how much seedling mix it takes to fill one of those ~72 plug trays...5 litres. So the one bag I had of 25 litres did up five trays. Good to know. I'll need to buy another to make up three bags for this season.

Picked up my second mini four tier greenhouse...on a shopping tour and found prices ranged from $70, $50 to $45 and bought the $45 one. No castors but Rick told me just to grab one of the molded plastic struts and we can fit some casters to it that way. Add maybe ten bucks to the cost if'n I buy the same kinda cheapy ones my original $40 greenhouse came with. The metal has been really stretched thin on the new version...nothing like how sturdy the old one is. Oh well--them good ol' dazes, eh.
