One scovy who has sat for 7 days got up for a strech so I candled, not a single developing egg. Cracked about half for a closer look, fertile and absolutely no development. Seriously you could have still eaten them :/
Bummer.

Had she not been sitting tightly enough???? You know, beginning of incubation, so lots of ups and downs from mom... And incubation hadn't actually started yet?

Sam, those channel locks look good, but I was thinking of building something similar out of electrical tubing. Does mean I need to go pick up another 20 euros worth of supplies tomorrow though.

Not the least bit of development. They might as well have been in the fridge. Her nest site was terrible, inside a cold metal bin with no nest material (I brought her hay once I found her). Looks like rather than sitting on them, she had them around her. I gave her some rouen eggs, not sure if she'll take them. I added a towel to her nest because she had no hay under the eggs, the towel really threw her off.

But if they look like they might set.... Maybe only take as many as will fit in your incubator?

Well, I had to buy some more plastic for the greenhouse, the stuff we had wasn't enough. It's raining today, so I don't feel like installing the clamp system, but it I think I now have a clear plan on how to attach the plastic. I just hope it will be tight enough to keep it in place... I'm going to install a 16mm electrical pipe to run along the outside of the curve, put the plastic on top, and then clamp it down with 20mm electrical pipe from which I'm cutting out about a quarter lengthwise. So it will be like a 'C' clipping on a 'o', with two layers of plastic in between. I might have to do some duct tape magic to make the fit a bit tighter.

I left them and one is sitting, at least she was this morning. It's a much better nest and she is actually on the eggs so we will see. I may snatch a few for the bator but I really don't want to be raising duckling while I'm 9 months pregnant....

Your plan sounds sweet Felix, you'll be surprised how tight you can get the plastic with that sort of system.
