Has anyone raised the Dixie Rainbow, someone is selling them and claims they lay 290 x-large eggs in their first year and that the roosters will weigh 5 to 6 pounds in 12 weeks, seems like they would be very popular as a dual purpose breed if true;

I could be mistaken, but isn't the Dixie Rainbow supposed to be just another of the free-ranging type meatbirds? If so, the egg laying claim would be really, really odd... The butcher weight at 12 weeks sounds a little inflated to me, but not far off the mark like the laying thing.

They are dual purpose birds. Can be for meat or as layers .they lay large brown eggs and if u want for meat they are market ready by around 12 weeks

I bought some of this breed from tractor supply back in August or September. This is what a couple of them look like now. They are big birds. The boys are more than ready to go to the freezer, but I have just not gotten around to it yet. The egg on the left is the first egg I got from one of the 3 hens I have. It was a double yolk. The blue egg is a large egg from one of my mixed breeds.

I have 2 Dixie Rainbow hens that are 2 yrs old. One is HUGE (nearly 8 lbs), has the temperament of a meat bird, eats a lot and lays about 4 large eggs/wk. The other is just under 7 lbs, docile, intelligent, inquisitive, eats about the same as my other layers and will lay a HUGE egg that weighs around 80g for 8-9 days in a row, takes a break on day 9 or 10. She is my favorite chicken.
