Its impossible for me not to make pets out of them amd every other living creature.

I`m the same way Janie! Pat would be too even though she said she would not! I have to love an animal I have raised and nurtured and cared for! I was able to give my little friend an extra year of a pretty good life she hadn`t laid an egg for at least a year. Over a year ago she had a bad prolapse that I was able to help her through. She was pretty good until the last week or so. Glad she isn`t suffering any longer...

I'm so sorry, Barry. They pay a price for being such heavy producers. Being a byc member gives you the opportunity to educate others and I see that you do that often in the introductory forum. Thank you.

Thanks Janie! They certainly do pay the ultimate price. Thanks for noticing, I really do try to let people know that those eggs they typically lay every day come with a heavy price to pay! Much better off with heritage breeds. We still have two more ISA Browns, one still laying the other has bouts of sickness, she will likely be next. Keeping chickens is wonderful I don`t even mind the extra work but the heartbreak we could all do without!

Good morning everyone! Sad start to start the day here, another ISA brown hen gone at 3 years old... She was the sweetest lap chicken! She would come over and peck my leg indicating she wanted up. She never few up on my lap. Then she would stand there and lay her head on my shoulder! What a sweet bird she was! She had a great and happy life here. No more ISA browns for me though.
