DIY chicken waterer questions

I want to make a waterer with PVC pipe and watering cups. I have some questions though. Does anyone have any experiences with these cups and what are the pros and cons on using them. Do they thread directly into PVC pipe? This would be a gravity feed system and I live in Florida so I am not concerned about water freezing. These are the cups available at Tractor Supply.

I use horizontal nipples(they work great), so I can't help you. There are only a few people on here, that I have seen try this style and didn't have much good to say about them.

I too, use the horizontal nipples, and love them. I fill up the waterer 1x a week right now for 24 chickens (2x weeks during the summer). In our coldest part of the year, I put a small stock tank heater in the bucket and have not had an issue with frozen nipples.

The only minor problem I've heard about with the cups is that dirt does get into them. They have to be cleaned regularly. Like the other two posters, I use horizontal nipples. The water is always clean.

5gal food grade bucket from Home Depot with a couple of horizontal nipples and a deicer in the winter. Nothing but good things to say about the system.
