We're in the middle of the biggest hurricane in Connecticut history & I knew my free-range flock was going to be mighty unhappy to be confined, so I threw together a boredom-buster for them last night. I call it "Flock Block Substitute" and it has a lot of healthy ingredients in it, including apples, eggs, wheat germ, oatmeal and calendula flowers (for lovely yolk color!). I feel good about knowing exactly what's in it, how fresh it is and the quality of the ingredients that go into it. Try it yourself with whatever you have in the pantry; it makes the whole house smell AMAZING while it's baking! http://www.the-chicken-chick.com/2012/10/flock-block-substitute.html

Once they got past their apprehension about this new treat, they went to town on it!

The storm came and went almost as quickly as the treat block did, thankfully and without any damage.
