I really enjoy DIY projects. I'm experimenting with a DIY incubator for quail eggs. I figure I have 2-3 weeks before the quail I have are old enough to start laying so I have time to play with it. I've taken an old styrofoam cooler, put in a socket to hold a 15W bulb, two glasses for water, a screen to keep the hatched quail away from the bulb and I purchased a temp/humidity gauge. First run was to place a couple of bricks in the bottom to create some thermal mass to have a heat sink. Let it run over night. Not a bad first run. It reached and held at 106 degrees F and 79% humidity. From what I've read 99.5 - 101 degrees F. I took out the bricks as perhaps it's holding too much heat to see if I can get down to a more optimal range. I removed one container of water to see if I can get the humidity down to around 60% as well.
Interested to see if I can get it right where I need it.
