Sorry, Deb, it wasn't you after all. Lacy Blue from the Fermented Feeds for Meat Birds turned me on to Rippy. I just saw the name and thought it was you. It was funny though. Thought processes on overdrive.

Sorry I am battling computer gremlins..... LOL There are a few feed store around here carry them.... Same sized bale that you get shavings in.... They are a bit more expensive but they last longer..... dont know about composting but if you have wet seasons they are the bomb for dealing with moisture.... I dont compost so cant say.. Some of them do blow a way but not much. Expect your chickens to dive in and pick out little extra bits of rice.....

My mare thought they were Yummy But then figured it wasnt worth the work.... LOL.... When I used to spread them out for her the black birds would line up on the fence rail tapping their fingers and eyeing me.... waiting for me to LEave Their Grub alone.... OMG too funny.

I'm in coastal San Diego, we are hopefully getting a ton of rain on Fri/Sat but usually no. My chickens go mental over a tub of leaves, I imagine a bunch of rice bits would delight them. Do you know if any of the more westerly feed stores carry them?

Quote: Double S in Blossom Valley technically El Cajon.
Carters Hay and Grain.... both sites the one in Lakeside and the one in Vista
East county feed.... In Santee.

Are you north west or south west.....

For south....Check the feed stores in Bonita and Chula Vista I dont know.... if they carry them.

for east.... Check Marys Tack and feed in Del mar.

Anyone who carries Mallard creek will be able to get Rice hulls. There are other suppliers I am certain but that is the only one I know.

Hey are you going to the meetup on the 2nd? Valley Center at Offgridmomma's house? If its rained out It will be held the next weekend on the 9th.

eggcellent.... I dont have sound but I understood the whole assembly.... How hot does that cross bar get?

I know the priciplals of welding and have been known to weld but What I do aint preety.... LOL. I need to relearn for sure.

For those of us who cant weld you can use a threaded piece of pipe and a screw on pipe flange, instead of the hat channel bracket for the base. The pipe is more expensive than conduit but do able.

deb

No heat is transfered to the cross bar. There are other ways to make the lamp safer without welding.

To everybody out there. Safety first, for you, your family and in this forum, your chicks!

Service Bulletin from IncubatorWarehouse.com

It has come to our attention that in a small percentage of 225 Watt Incukits a wiring error was made that caused the fan to turn off instead of the heater.

On the back side of the 225 Watt IncuKit Thermostat there are colored wire connectors on the ends of the wires. These are color coded to connect with the correct wires coming out of the heater and fan portion of the IncuKit. If you have already set up the IncuKit and it stabilized at the correct temperature and is working properly, then your unit is not affected by this issue. If you have not done so, we request that when you set up the IncuKit that you inspect the color coding to ensure the connectors were assembled correctly.

GREEN wires should have RED connectors on the ends. These connect with the RED connectors that lead to the heating elements on the heater portion of the IncuKit.

We appreciate your attention to this cautionary request. If you find the connectors are not as listed above, please contact customer service for further instructions.

The quality and safety of our products are of utmost importance.
