DIY Thread - Let's see your "Inventions".

I'll say "yes!" so people still having winter don't cry.

If anyone wants to be a broody chicken or duck, come on over! I've got some lovely eggs waiting for hot bottoms.

I'm already 'cracked', can I still come?

Wow, that Oregon coop is astounding!
And Primrose, what an awesome find and use for the ladder- super jealous! I desperately want an antique-ish ladder to hang blankets from in our house!
So this isn't a big invention- but hey, I am proud of my work, and the chickens are loving it!
I made them a compost bin out of some old fencing the previous owners of our house had done around said house, I guess to block from the horse field? Anyhoo, here is a pic of some of the flock playing in it. We also had to move a big pile of self-composting oat hay that went bad for the horses, but figured the flock would love to scrounge in it. I will start dumping their poop and the coop straw when it is unusable in there as well. Along with having them watch me bury food scraps a bit, so they go scratch for them and stay entertained.

This is my live feeder for my chicks. Its made out of an old pallet and broken baby gates. I will be planting barley seeds when it is a bit warmer, but right now grass is coming up. It is moveable and I am planning on adding on to it. Fresh greens for my babies coming soon!

Love it! I have plans for that as well, using some old hardware type wire, and some of the wood fencing we have. Are those cat toys hanging on the perch branches? :)

Yes they are! They are cat balls on string hanging from outside roosts.......keeps them busy :)

Yeap! They grab the string and pull on it to try to get the ball down and the ball has a bell in it. They will get on the perch and peck at it from above and they also try to jump up to grab it. I have one on each perch! The balls were in the brooder with them too….. they also have a little mouse cat toy that they run around with…hehehe!

That is crazy! I don't know how impressed mine would be with them. Their favorite past time is digging in the pinestraw or dirt in their yard so tehy can sun themselves. Maybe in winter when they can't dig, then they might like the toys... :) But I am definitely going to try it! I saw online, someone took a soda bottle- hose weird round ones like the Christmas Coke bottles?- they took one of those and turned it into a roll around treat dispenser. That I think my birds might like and plan to also try one of these days. We don't drink soda, so I am trying to find something else instead since I keep forgetting to buy one of those drinks
