Allow 1 square foot each for chicks nearing 4 weeks old, which is minimum IMO. If you go the minimum, you will need to clean the cage at least twice a day. Height of enclosure is not an issue. 1 or 2 feet tall is fine. You can go 4'x4' and manage 19 of them ok. Still, the more space the better.I'm just trying to find out how big I need to build a brooder? I'm getting 19 chicks and would like to build one large enough for them to stay in until they are 4 weeks old.

I'm so bad at math I have to count the dots on the dice to play Yahtzee, and nobody wants to play Cribbage with me because I have such a hard time finding the 15s and doing the counts. Not a whole lot upstairs, but from there on down, Disneyland!
Funny thing is I used to be able to do Advanced Algebra, Calculus, Trigonometry, Geometry..... All without being able to add and subtract without paper. Heck I have even been known to calculate reaction loading for High rise Elevators
Too many braincells have hit the buglight I am afraid.... LOL.

If you don't have a lot of rock in the ground or packed clay, the helical anchors shouldn't be too hard to screw in and would be lot more convenient than carrying around a bunch of weights (of whatever fashion, water, sand, etc)
Breaking the wind before it gets to the coop is a good idea.
You can also use roller stands to support long pieces, both in feed and out feed sides of the saw. Do not get cheap ones, they will tip over at the most inopportune time.

If you have to cut with the guard off, ie, not cutting all the way through the wood (dado cuts to make grooves or splitting a 2x that is wider than the saw will cut for example) attach feather boards to the fence or the piece can kick back. This CAN kill you. Google feather baords. You can buy them or make them yourself.
Unfortunately, my 4' long closed community box SHOULD serve 4 at a time. BUT, the girls that prefer it to the open nests all like to lay at one end so even in a box without specific nest spaces, there IS a favorite nest!
Looks like a nice design Deb. A lot of people here on BYC would love to have your drafting skills.

What happened? Did you have kids ?Funny thing is I used to be able to do Advanced Algebra, Calculus, Trigonometry, Geometry..... All without being able to add and subtract without paper. Heck I have even been known to calculate reaction loading for High rise Elevators

Bwhaahahahah.... Only later... I am 59 and my son is soon to be 25. no it was a case of use it or loose it.... My last engineering job was back in the 90s After that I wound up doing the paperwork for Engineering Change Orders... blehch... Mindless detail work coordinating databases and a bazillion partslists and effectivity....
I am a drawer and a tinkerer... I can do the otherstuff but it makes me crazy. but I am too old and fat to compete in this world of Multitasking Social media driven kids who have never stepped into a machine shop... OH boy sorry for the soap box.
