DIY Thread - Let's see your "Inventions".

How many chicks will you be brooding and how often? Generally speaking, the more you need to use the setup the more worthwhile (time and money) it is to go "fancier".
I hatch an average of 50-60 at a time all summer long. I'd prefer to make a kind of "cheap and easy" brooder

cheap and easy sounds great, have most of materials here to get a quail pen and two brooder on top for them. The part I am short on is time. Hopefully Thursday I can start on it with the long weekend and no classes after work. Lil buggers are almost fully feathered in two weeks.

I didn't invent anything, but wanted to show an example of how I reused plastic pellet bags to winterize my run. If anyone has any use for plastic pellet bags but doesn't have any PLEASE private message me and I will get you some. I have hundreds of them. It's difficult to find places that will recycle them.

This is a great idea .. relatively new to the chicken thing .. 1 year now .. going in to last winter i concluded that keeping wind snow and rain out was necessary so I began taking plexiglass plastic from large screen TV's that people trash out .. between plexiglass and real windows (double hung .. dismantled) and large glass from screen door .. i was able to keep it warm, dry all winter .. i want to leave all of it in place just to keep it dry in there .. but it does get warm if not tooo warm like a solar box when sun is pounding down .. (getting things done on the cheap .. my motto ) ..

I just finished reading this thread from the beginning, lots of cool ideas that got my brain working. I don't currently have any birds, but I will be getting Quail in the next year or so... so I'll be tinkering around and getting ready for them soonish. I already have a building to put them in, just need to make the cages and get all of the feeders and waters setup.

Soooo, how long did it take to read 359 pages?

Lol, I've been working on it for a few months, mostly during my lunch break at work and while getting ready for work
