Hi folks, the bedding is Red Gum, a local tree.

I use straw in my nesting boxes, but was a bit worried it was too slippery, I asked the breeder for pine and this is the stuff she uses. It was used in all her brooders and she assures me it was safe for the chicks.

The brooder body itself is two old dresser draws, reversed and stacked on top. The panel floor was removed from the top draw and turned into the lid. I wanted a wire lid so I had to brace the lid with a cheap frame. The timber was from Bunnings, about $1.11 a length (1.2m) Legs were salvaged timber, feeder was left over MDF from another job, lamp was a desk lamp from K Mart (clamp on type with flexible neck) for $10.

Got the bedding, drinker and ceramic globe from the breeder that we got our eggs from for this hatch.

Not the most gorgeous thing, but given the price it functions.

I just dug up this picture so I thought that I would post. This is a goat guard that I made to keep the goats out of the chicken run. It may not deter other predators but it has for sure kept the goats from shooting right through the 9" x 12" run opening and raiding the feed!!

I made little roosts for my babies. I used reeds growing in my back yard and pieces of 2 x4 and U nails to make this! Works really good too!

I think it's great! That's why i asked for another picture! I love repurposing products like dressers/drawers, etc. This is great!

That's really smart! I love it! My goats and chickens roam together as well, I may have to steal this idea!

That's awesome. I want to keep my goats out of the chicken feed but allow the chickens in to the goat area so this would be great!

Here in the South East any water barrel or tank exposed to the sun collects heat and grows algae. My 3 1/2 gallon waterer that is never in the sun grows algae and needs to be scrubbed weekly. I have found adding apple cider vinegar to the water slows the growth somewhat and is beneficial to the birds. This looks like a great system Hope you don't have problems with algae growth.

I havent had any problems with mine but i added a toilet float so mine is constantly moving the water ... hey wilmington here too

Thanks! Well its brand new there... over 3 years ago. Its not that clean now... I am going to white wash it this spring and Its easy to keep clean with the linoleum floor though. 

I wish I had some linoleum flooring in mine! I just cleaned my coop yesterday and it looks pretty clean
