my turkey nest used a 55 gallon plastic drum
I asked my husband to make me a turkey nest. He built this using an old Whiskey barrel and 2"x4" boards for the cradle.
I feed FF and use second hand mud pans with holes drilled in the bottom for drainage. My husband built a holder using scrap boards for three pans. I can pop them out for cleaning very easily.

Those have the gasket. I use teflon tape too but that gasket is MORE important than the tape. Funny, I have ordered about 200 and used them all LOL
Quote: you can find the threaded ones even cheaper than that on ebay....
That is pretty steep with shipping. The nipples are the right price less than $30. I think I got free shipping on mine.....

I use the one gallon milk jugs for many things, easiest is for water for my chick waterers. I fill them up and take them out at feeding time and refill the waters. I also have one in each coop which I have cut out a portion of so that it becomes a holder for my oystershell and is secured to the coop at a easy level for the chickens to access. Then when they need more, I just carry a half gallon milk jug scoop around with the oystershell and put a cup of shell grit in each one.
If you have quail, I did last year, cutting a quail sized opening into a gallon jug makes a great dust bath for the birds and the dust goes a lot further (I use diatomaceous earth with clay for my birds, about $16 for a 50# bag)
I drill drain holes in them and they are for adult bird. I haven't let any of my flocks brood in the coopsJust be careful with Gallon jugs and little chicks. I have lost several to drownings. I didn't have them with chicks, but with the broody hen. I DON'T use gallon jugs around chicks anymore.
