Very nice!

OK so you good DIY folks help me here.... I KNOW there has to be a way I can use this thing! IF I can figure out or WE can figure this out it might not be so temporary. lol see below....

In a few weeks I'll be getting 24 chicks to raise. I have a pen for them when they get a little larger but I'm thinking about something and need some ideas..... I have one of those large round metal cattle troughs, the bottom is rusted out but the walls are nice and strong. I'd thought about putting it close to the house so I could raise the chicks in it until they got a little size on them. I have 3 cats that LOVE birds and critters and are GOOD hunters so this is WHY I was wanting to use the cattle trough. Only problem the ants will carry the biddies off since there's not bottom in it. I was going to put netting over the top of it or wire but WHAT or how can I fix a temporary bottom? Any ideas? OR do I just abandon this idea and figure out something else? This will be only for temp.
You mean something like this?

Thanks chicken garden!

Here is one I just smashed together. My DIY incubator was holding about 68% humidity (just went into lock down tonight) I would like it a little higher. I added a warm wet sponge, but it will dry out. I don't want to open it again until they hatch, so I improvised this 'remote humidity increaserer (patent pending)

I didn't need extra sponges in testing, but seems now, right when I need it I do!

Plastic air tube, slit with a new screw in the end.

Wire ties and a sponge. Filled from a new sauce squirter. (I use the squirter to fill my 'bator trays through a gap)

If I still need a bit more I can stack the sponges and soak them all at the same time, hopefully one should see the couple of % I need though.

How can I make or even what can I buy so that my chickens can have light in their coop for Winter so they lay more eggs.

I am absolutely stumped, I have searched YOUTUBE all day on "How To's".lol. To no prevail.

I have got a suitable lighting system here http://www.kathmandu.com.au/camping/lighting/other/solar-camping-light.html But how do I connect it to a TIMER!!!

Any help appreciated!

the link does not show.

if you have solar with a battery you can use a 12v timer from ebay and led lights

if it has a built in battery, you may be able to use a timer and a relay for car lights / horn

That's the problem, I don't have a panel and for a strong one they cost quite a bit.

Would any of these work? http://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?_...1313.TR0.TRC0&_nkw=small+solar+panel&_sacat=0
