DIY Thread - Let's see your "Inventions".

Thanks. I'll have to admit I was kinda chuckling at the recent weather posts on here. I have friends in WI threatening to come move in w/ me since I live in South Carolina.

Anywho, I would warn those who attempt using the egg crate light panel for any reason about the sharp edges after being cut. I learned about it the hard way.

I also have shelf liner to put in the bator at lockdown since quail feet are so tiny. The turner will be coming out as well.

The pics in my gallery are ducks. It might of been your auto-correct though...

This is a really nice setup. I am in the process of building our first coop and run. I asked my wife to look at this picture and she loves the idea. I had planned to cover the whole run with chicken wire, but like this idea better. One question, does this also keep the chickens in? If my fence was only 5 foot tall then I did this for the roof, do you think they would stay in?

Hope this helps: chicken wire doesn't keep out predators, use hardware cloth. Also, chickens can easily get over a 5' fence, mine went over a 6' fence. I clipped the flight feathers in their left side and they've never gone over the fence since, but they can still fly up to the perch, about 3'.

"Built" my DIY incubator today...took me a little bit to construct a feather pillow from feathers donated by free roosters I killed this winter, then the rest was put together in about 5 min. and is currently holding steady temps at 99.9 degrees. It will take 21 days to see if it will work.

Materials: Dirt, leaves and other bedding from the coop, snow, a trash bag, cardboard box, meat thermometer, handful of hay, scraps of material, feathers, heating pad with variable settings and an old Bible(for weight).

Need an interpreter...at what level are the eggs. Are they UNDER the heating pad?

ETA - on closer inspection, I see them there in the feathers. So we have eggs, feathers, heating pad, then a towel on top?? Bible on top of the heating pad?
